Antique Drop Leaf Tables
It's very easy to buy a drop leaf table today, but if you want to find one that
has true aged character you'll need to look longer and in more interesting
places. You can't go to JC Penney and find a true antique table, although you
may find one that looks antique but was pulled out of the factory just a month
ago. To have a table with a true past you'll need to shop at antique stores,
flea markets, and auctions. These places are a treasure chest of interesting
items that you don't see in the everyday world.
If the type of furniture you're looking for is very specific it makes your search
that much harder. It can also make it more expensive as specialty items have
an intrinsic value that is hard to avoid paying for. You may get lucky and
find an auction with no other bidders wanting your piece, but it's rare. If
you're willing to refinish a really ugly old piece of furniture then your chances
are better, but unless you know how to do it yourself this will seriously add
to the final cost.
Antique drop leaf tables can have their own little quirks. For instance the drop
leaf mechanism could be quite different than those modern tables and it may
even squeak and be a bit rusty. For many this just adds to the charm. |
